TWO people who tried to smuggle ganja into the Constant Spring police lock-up in false compartments of styrofoam lunch boxes were on Monday remanded for sentencing on June 29 in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

Both offenders were held at the Constant Spring Police Station on June 10, in separate incidents.

The first offender, 35-year-old Liecial Solomon, a caregiver of Rock Pond in St Andrew, was arrested after police officers found false compartments containing ganja at the bottom of two lunch boxes.

Solomon had gone to the police station at 1:30 pm to deliver the boxes with meals of rice and peas and chicken.

The woman, when told that the meals contained the drug, reportedly said: “Jesus Christ, a wah dis?”

Solomon also allegedly told police that she was not the one who had put the ganja in the boxes.

Two hours later, Oshane Williams, a 23-year-old construction worker of Lawrence Tavern in St Andrew, was arrested after he, too, brought in a meal of rice and peas and pork in a lunch box that had a false compartment containing ganja.

When cautioned, Williams, who admitted that he was the one who had put the ganja in the box, told police: “I was going to throw it away but because mi name was called I didn’t get a chance to throw it away.”

When the two appeared before Parish Judge Vaughn Smith Monday, both pleaded guilty to possession of ganja and introducing contraband into a lock-up.

In both cases, the weight of the ganja was not noted on the case file, hence, both were then remanded for sentencing on June 29.
