An entire plaza was powered by illegal connections – JPS
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has reported that it disconnected several illegal connections from businesses and residential areas across Kingston and St Andrew during an operation that begun today.
JPS, in a release, said teams from the company carried out several meter audits and investigations, as well as raids to remove “throw-ups” from the network.
The JPS said that preliminary estimates reveal that over a thousand throw-ups were removed.
Additionally, a significant find was made in St Andrew North, where an entire shopping plaza was being powered by illegal connections.
One arrest was made in relation to the disconnection at the plaza, JPS said.
The utility company also said that two upscale residences were discovered to have sophisticated bypass mechanisms, facilitating electricity theft.
