Parliamentarians to participate in refresher programme
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Houses of Parliament, in an effort to improve effectiveness, say they will be hosting a mid-term refresher (Re-Orientation Programme) for Parliamentarians next week.
Parliament, in a advisory today, said the programme will be held on Tuesday, June 26 — 27 at the Courtyard by Marriott in New Kingston.
“The programme is aimed at ensuring a satisfactory understanding of the oversight role of Parliament to enhance members’ contribution and consequently, improve the effectiveness of the Parliament,” the advisory stated.
The Parliament advisory said that the session was open to all members (Senators and Members of Parliament) and will provide the opportunity for members to learn about (or be reminded of) various facets of Parliamentary practice and procedure.
Areas to be explored include the Constitutional and Legal Framework of Parliamentary Democracy and Public Finance Management.
