KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists travelling to downtown Kingston via Water Lane and those using Mandela Highway to expect delays today and tomorrow.

“As you plan your weekend travel (perhaps to attend a World Cup viewing party in the city), please be advised that trenching works at Water Lane/Pechon Street, Downtown and Tom Cringle Drive/Mandela Highway will cause delays or diversions on Saturday and Sunday,” said the NWA in a post  on Twitter today.

Mototorist travelling to downtown Kingston today via  Marcus Garvey and Water Lane/Pechon Street are being asked to use East Avenue or Industrial Terrace instead, as a section of Water Lane will be closed to facilitate trenching works.

NWA said the roadway will be inaccessible beyond the Port Royal Street intersection.

The work, which was scheduled to begin at 8:00 am, should be completed by 8:00 pm.

The area will be backfilled, to be paved at a later date, the agency informed.

Similar trenching works are expected to be carried out today and tomorrow along a section of the westbound carriageway of Mandela Highway at the Tom Cringle Drive intersection.

The NWA said motorists may experience delays as the left lane will be restricted to facilitate pipe-laying works.
