Ganja valued at $1.6m seized in St Elizabeth
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police have reported the seizure of approximately 400 pounds of compressed ganja in Barbary Hall district, St Elizabeth yesterday.
Reports are that about 7:45 pm, the lawmen were conducting anti-narcotics operations in the community when they intercepted a white Toyota L Touring motorcar along the Barbary Hall main road.
The police said two persons immediately got out of the vehicle and ran into nearby bushes, making good their escape.
The car was searched and seven white knitted bags containing parcels of compressed ganja weighing about 400 pounds were found on the back seat and in the trunk.
The car and the drugs were seized.
The ganja has an estimated street value of J$1.6 million.
