85% of disabled individuals unemployed – labour ministry
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says that 85 per cent of people with disabilities in Jamaica are unemployed.
The ministry, in an advisory today, said it will be hosting an employers’ consultation to combat what it described as an “unacceptable high rate” of unemployment among the group.
The consultation will be held on Thursday, July 19 at the Sandals Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios under the theme “Workability” and is a part of the ministry’s Social and Economic Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities Project (SEI).
