1. Grange tasked with reviewing ‘no-sleeveless’ policy

Prime Minister Andrew Holness said he has tasked Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange to examine and review the practice of prohibiting women who wear sleeveless attire from government facilities. The prime minister made the disclosure a short while ago via his official Twitter page where he said that “as a modern society, we must evolve”.

2. Water level at Hermitage Dam below 50%; residents urged to conserve

Residents in the Corporate Area are being urged to conserve on water as the Hermitage Dam is showing the effects of reduced rainfall.

3. Canadian cannabis company Aphria expands to Jamaica

Canada-based medical cannabis company, Aphria Inc is preparing to expand its business to Jamaica and several countries in Latin American and Caribbean, through a strategic deal with Scythian Biosciences Corp, a pre-clinical research and development company.

4. 85% of disabled individuals unemployed – labour ministry

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says that 85 per cent of

people with disabilities in Jamaica are unemployed. The ministry, in an advisory today, said it will be hosting an employers’ consultation to combat what it described as an “unacceptable high rate” of unemployment among the group.

Members of the public are being warned against circulating misleading information on social media that might be damaging to people’s reputation, especially members of the police force.

6. Trucking schedule developed to combat Portland drought

Member of Parliament for Western Portland, Daryl Vaz, says that a $10 million water trucking schedule has been developed to combat drought in the parish.

7. Former Trelawny hotel GM nabbed on fraud charges

The police have reported that a Greek national and former general manager of an all-inclusive hotel in Trelawny was arrested last night at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston for financial crimes going as far back as 2010.

8. Man chopped to death in St Thomas dispute

A man was chopped to death during a dispute with another man in his community of Duckenfield, St Thomas on Sunday.

9. Kingston store owner arrested in seizure of counterfeit goods

The police are reporting that more than $950,000 worth of counterfeit goods were seized yesterday and a man arrested and charged in relation to the seizure.

10. Long Pond distillery razed

Firefighters tried valiantly but failed to save a distillery with more than 65,000 litres of rum at Long Pond sugar factory in Trelawny yesterday. A worker at the factory said that the fire started in a sugar cane field behind the factory, caught a pile of bagasse on the property and quickly spread to the distillery area.
