Suspended cop held for Portland robbery
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Constabulary Force has reported that a suspended police officer was nabbed as a suspect in the robbery of “hundreds of thousands of dollars” from a couple in Forte district, Portland yesterday.
The police said a man, confirmed to be a suspended police constable who was stationed in St Thomas, has been arrested in connection with the robbery of approximately J$700, 000.
It is alleged that he was one of four men who held up the couple as they returned home from a party about 3:15 am on Monday.
He was fingered during preliminary investigations and taken into custody, the police reported.
His identity is being withheld at this time.
Police said that a search ongoing for the other suspected robbers, and an appeal is being made for residents to share any information that can assist investigators by contacting the Manchioneal Police at 876-993-8061, Crime Stop at 311, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
