Olympic sprint double champion Elaine Thompson has called it quits on her 2018 season, citing an injured Achilles tendon that has continued to affect her results.

In a post on her Facebook page yesterday afternoon Thompson said she was “counting the positives” but was forced to pull the plug on the season.

Thompson, who won the 100m at the Jamaican National Senior Championships in 11.01 seconds and represented Jamaica in the event at the IAAF World Cup in London two weekends ago, has a season’s best 10.93 seconds done in Doha in May, but has not dominated on the circuit as she did last year when she won eight of nine 100m races.

Her post in total said, “Counting the positives, but it’s been quite a season where my Achilles continues to affect my results, so back to the drawing board. Thanks to you all for the support this season, it means a lot to me. See you again on the track in 2019!”

She was named in a provisional Jamaican team to represent Jamaica at the NACAC Senior Championships to be held in Toronto, Canada, next month.
