Performance analysis for Wednesday, July 18, 2018

RACE 1-MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT (5YOS&UPWARDS) 800METRES/4FURLONGS STRAIGHT

Astro and Son Of Taqarub disputed the lead, with Squit a close-up third in the centre of the track. Explosive Charge, running prominently closest to the stand rails, stayed on very strongly to be two and a half lengths on top at the winning post in an unpredictable, sudden return to form.

RACE 2-$450-400,000 CLAIMING (3YOS&UPWARDS)RES/9FURLONGS+25YARDS

Newton’s First Law and Top Eagle disputed the lead into the backstretch, with Bay Commander in touch. Favourite Danos La Paz travelled easily from 900 metres out and went in pursuit of Newton’s First Law, who disposed of Top Eagle approaching the final bend. Driven to get on terms, Danos La Paz came inside the last 200

metres clear and outstayed Newton’s First Law by five and a half lengths.

RACE 3-$250-210,000 CLAIMING (3-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1600METRES/8FURLONGS

From an even break Goodbloodbadblood led, pressed by Stan Roy with rail-running Chief Prospect held up in third and on the bridle. Escaping persistent pressure from Stan Roy 700 metres out, Goodbloodbadblood turned for home in front. But Chief Prospect slipped through on his inside, and took charge approaching the distance, and then went on to outstay him by four and a half lengths.

RACE 4-MAIDEN CONDITION (THREE-YEAR-OLDS ONLY) 1600METRES/8FURLONGS

Dreamingofanna broke on top but was joined by Sacrifice, with the former going much better and on the bridle. Dezzy The Genius made a sharp move on the inside to join Dreamingofanna with 800 metres to come, with these beginning to go clear of the remainder. In the stretch run, Dreamingofanna tried desperately to with Dezzy The Genius but was outstayed easily and accepted a four-length defeat — six lengths clear of Nala’s Bushman in third.

RACE 5-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE V (5-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1600METRES/8FURLONGS

Despite the rider losing an iron early, Hail Mary led for 300 metres pursued by Serious Manipulator and Smokescreen before dropping out of contention. Travelling strongly from 800 metres out, Smokescreen was on top in the upper stretch, with favourite Cat’s Rigger close but eventually not good enough as he could only manage fourth. Staying on strongly Smokescreen beat runner-up Dan Dan by seven lengths, with Mary’s Gold another five lengths away in third.

RACE 6-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE II (3-YEAR-OLDSS&UPWARDS) 1500METRES/7 1/2FURLONGS

Uncle Honey led Barcelona, with Innovator running on the inner rails a close-up third. These front-runners came into the straight under pressure from Council Of Trent, with My Beirut, from off the pace, staying on best of all. Having finished fourth in the Governor’s Cup and seventh of 16 in the Derby, My Beirut outclassed the opposition by six and a half lengths. This win must have given confidence to the connections of My Beirut, especially trainer Richard Azan, for a possible run in Saturday’s Sagicor Bank Jamaica St Leger run over 10 furlongs (2,000 metres).

RACE 7-$180,000 CLAIMING (3-YEAR-OLDS&UPWARDS) 1000METRES/5FURONGSROUND

Princess Statistic led into the straight with Milagro getting on terms approaching the distance, beating her comfortably in the end by two and a half lengths.

RACE 8-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE III (4YOS&UPWARDS/NW3) 1000METRES/5FURLONGS STRAIGHT

Lady Jaela got slowly into stride but sprinted to the front and was soon clear. Entering the last 400 metres her rider had the luxury of looking back to check for dangers but had little to do for a two-and-a-half-length victory, easing down. K D

Flyer and Ictus finished in a dead-heat for second clear of the rest. A  much-improved run by the Dwight Chen-trained Lady Jaela, who is one to follow in future races.

RACE 9-OVERNIGHT ALLOWANCE (3YOS&UPWARDS) 1300METRES/6 1/2FURLONGS

Lunar Rocket led at a fast pace, with Crucial Appeal and Lightning Lily in serious chase. Having not raced from last August, a tired Lunar Rocket gave way to Lightning Lily who came to the distance travelling very well but with Sir Budget, Sarah Lee and Soy El Senor all threatening but not good enough. Ligthning Lily ran

very well inside the last 200 metres and just lasted ahead of a late rush from Jamai Raja.

RACE 10-RESTRICTED ALLOWANCE V (4YOS&UPWARDS/NW2) 1300METRES/6 1/2FURLONGS

Pythagoras Theorem flew away from the gates and led convincingly, although chased hard by Uncle Wal and El Maestro into the home straight. Agnes T looked well in the post parade and ran as expected by her connections by producing a strong run from 300 metres out, to strike the front in the last 100 for a comfortable victory. Blood Song, slowly into stride, was the last one 800 metres out but finished well for second.
