RACING NEWS…RACING NEWS…RACING NEWS…

SHAMAREE MUIR RIDES 100 WINNERS IN CANADA

Shamaree Muir rode his 100th winner in Canada when he booted home Sir Bronx at the Northlands Park racetrack in Edmonton last Wednesday.

Trained by Rick Hedge, Sir Bronx won by a length and three quarters ahead of Private Money Game (Rigo Sarmiento) going six and a half furlongs on the dirt. The final time was 1:18.48.

“Well, it is a wonderful to ride 100 winners in Canada, an international racetrack. I am happy for the achievement and I am grateful for the opportunity as well. I will continue to do the hard work and keep on working toward bettering myself as a jockey,” said Muir, who had ridden 20 winners this season.

Muir’s Canada now reads: 100 winners, 120 second-place finishes and 87 thirds from 771 rides — with earnings of CAN$1,434,646.

SIX HORSES CLAIMED ON SATURDAY

Six horses were claimed on the nine-race programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

Lance Richards claimed Minniffia for owner Norris Phinn from Patrick Chang; Anthony Ferguson claimed Vision Of Gold for owner The Seeker from Delroy Wisdom; and Roy Matthews claimed Burlin for owner Soldier Camp from Johnny Wilmot from the fourth race. All these claims went for $350,000.

In the fifth race on a $180,000 claiming tag, Errol Pottinger claimed Shade Of Beauty for owner Rocky & Stickman from Johnny Wilmot; Ryan Darby claimed Also Correct for owner Raphael Gordon from Wilfred Chin; and Lawrence Freemantle claimed Clearly Ours for owner Deleta Brewster from Ryan Darby.

NATALIE BERGER ON THE DOUBLE

APPRENTICE Natalie Berger continued to make progress in her career when she rode a working double on the nine-race programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday. It was the best day the young rider has had since starting her career in September of 2015.

Berger made one move aboard Strikinglygeorous in the sixth race over five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course. Trained by Ray Phillips, Strikinglygeous, a 5-1 betting option, won by four and a half lengths over Mirabilis (Linton Steadman), and Cloudy Greyt (Araon Chatrie) in that order in a time of 1:03.1.

It was different tactics by Berger aboard Classy Vishala in the seventh race over five and a half furlongs (1,100m). Instead of going for the lead, Berger held Classy Vishala off the pace in third position and watched as Rundazzle (Omar Walker) dictated the splits ahead of Prince Malik (Phillip Parchament).

When the time was right Berger produced her mount on the inside rails in deep stretch, and Classy Vishala blew past Rundazzle and went on to win by over three lengths in the end. Rundazzle was second and Prince Malik third with a final time of 1:10.2.

TRAINERS CHIN, WISDOM NOTCH FIRST WIN FOR THE SEASON

TRAINERS Wilfred Chin and Delroy Wisdom were able to saddle their first winners for the 2018 racing season at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

Chin was successful with Also Correct in the fifth race and Wisdom won with Classy Vishala in the seventh race.

After a couple of strides from the off, Also Correct (Oneil Scott) assumed the lead and carried the field into the lane.

Although challenged by Clearly Ours (Javaniel Patterson) in deep stretch, the seven-year-old bay mare found extra and went on to win by two and a half lengths in the six and a half furlong (1,300m) event.

Clearly Ours held for second money with Shade Of Beauty (Phillip Parchment) third with a final time of 1:23.4.

Ridden by Natalie Berger, Classy Vishala won easily to give Wisdom a welcomed victory.
