Shaw heading to meeting of agriculture ministers in Argentina
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Audley Shaw, will, this week, attend the G20 Meetings for Agriculture Ministers in Buenos Aires, Argentina from July 27-28.
According to a release from the ministry, the meeting will focus on initiatives aimed at promoting healthy soils in recognition of the role of agriculture in human development, as well as the link between soils and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), in a bid to provide guidance for the contribution of ICT in sustainable soil use.
Other areas to be covered include food loss; waste; trade; investment and transparency of agricultural markets and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
Shaw is expected to engage in a series of bilateral meetings on agricultural and technical cooperation and trade. These meetings are being arranged by the Embassy of Argentina in Jamaica. The ministry said that Jamaica is representing CARICOM at the G20 adding that Shaw will make a ministerial statement on behalf of Jamaica and CARICOM.
Argentina currently holds the Chair for the G20 nations and has given priority to Sustainable Food Future — promoting the efforts undertaken by G20 members and the international community under the objectives of sustainable agricultural development and world food security.
