KINGSTON, Jamaica — Within a 48-hour period, the police have recovered seven firearms, one of which was handed over to them by a St James couple who disarmed an alleged robber when he invaded their home in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

According to the lawmen, the robber entered a house in Moore Park, Adelphi in the parish about 2:00 am and was injured during an altercation with the couple.

The unidentified man has since succumbed to his injuries.

His loaded weapon — an Arcus 9mm pistol — was among six seized in St James alone while one firearm was recovered at a house in St Catherine.

Six people have also been arrested in connection with the seizures.

The lawmen said two Smith and Wesson handguns and a Ruger 9mm pistol, along with over 200 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized during a special operation on Gordon Crescent in Granville, St James about 11:30 am Wednesday.

Another two of the firearms — an M16 rifle with a magazine containing 13 5.56 rounds of ammunition and a Taurus pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with 13 9mm rounds of ammunition — were seized during an operation in Phelman Corner community of Salt Spring, St James between 4:30 am and 9:30 am yesterday.

Four persons were arrested during the operation, which also saw the seizure of lead sheets and a book containing identity information of persons living overseas — items believed to be used in lottery scamming.

And, during another operation between 1:45 am and 6:00 am yesterday, police in Linstead, St Catherine searched a house where a Glock 9mm pistol, three magazines and 77 9mm rounds of ammunition were reportedly found.

A man and a woman, who were at the house at the time, were taken into custody.

Investigations continue in all incidents.
