Young turks rise to the occasion
Five promising acts, dubbed the Next Generation, delivered the goods at Wednesday night’s edition of 100 Live. Held inside the parking lot of the 100 Sports Bar on Hope Road, the event attracted a sizeable number of patrons and was quite entertaining.
The monthly showcase has been a springboard for emerging as well as established acts who perform with a band in an intimate setting.
“This is a very nice event with a tranquil vibe. It really is the place to be,” said emerging singjay Shakespear, whose message-laced songs resonated with the audience.
With songs about consciousness and social issues, Shakespear delivered a workmanlike performance. His most familiar song Put Me Out Deer was well-received.
“I’m happy the message heard and the patrons reacted positively,” said the St Ann-based artiste, who is currently promoting the song Me Still Alive, produced by Kam Kam Music.
Dancehall artiste Bluugo was probably the evening’s best performer as he showed why he emerged winner of the 2018 edition of the Magnum King of the Dancehall.
“Me feel comfortable with the performance that I did tonight. It was a great experience. 100 Live is a mad vibe,” said Bluugo.
His song list included Don’t Trust People, You Got the Gold, and the witty Pot Cover, which patrons thoroughly enjoyed.
Newcomer Tamo J, who has been working with veteran producer esteemed Mikey Bennett, has a promising future ahead of him. The singer displayed showmanship and interacted with the audience.
“It was a really good look and the people were singing along. They were so receptive, and their reaction motivated me and kept me going,” said Tamo J.
Oh Mama, Miss Jamaica and Made It were the songs that characterised his set.
New sensation LaaLee Ranks was a hit from the moment he hit the stage. The dancehall newcomer ran through Whatz on Sale, Cornflakes Boss and his new single Jackie Chan much to the crowd’s delight.
“The vibe was amazing. I’ve seen bigger artistes than me performing here and I always wanted to be a part of the line-up, and here I am tonight. It is truly a blessing,” said LaaLee.
Pine and Ginger singer Joshua “Tessellated” Meeks brought the curtains down on the event at minutes to 11:00 pm.
