TANICE Morrison and Khalil were the toast of the evening at The Promise Gala Dinner and Cabaret, at Jamaica Pegasus, New Kingston, recently.

The event was the annual fund-raiser for the Best Care Foundation.

“It’s always a pleasure when they call me to perform,” Morrison told the audience.

Morrison led off the evening’s cabaret section. She had the audience singing and clapping along by her second song, Whitney Houston’s One Moment In Time. Much to the audience’s delight, she delivered a pitch-perfect rendition showing off her vocal range. After delivering her 2018 festival song entry, Jamaica You Nice Enuh, she rattled off a quick medley of lover’s rock favourites. She closed her set to a standing ovation.

Montegonian quartet Khalil stepped in next.

Replicating the flavour of ’70s groups such as the Bee Gees, the Jackson 5, and the Manhattans, they kept everyone dancing with covers of Staying Alive, Kiss & Say Goodbye, and I’ll Be There. Seamlessly transitioning from song to song, their popular trip down memory lane went over well with the female fans in the audience. Heightening Khalil’s set were their playful interactions with crowd. Once done, they handed the night over to Fab 5, who continued the music until the venue emptied.

Everette Lewis, director of the Best Care Foundation, was happy with the event and received positive feedback from patrons in regard to the entertainment package.

“We are very happy with how things went as the turn-out was good. From all indicators the guests enjoyed the entertainers, as their performances were attuned to what they liked,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

While the foundation at that point, yet to tabulate the funds collected, money raised is earmarked to be used in the upkeep of the Best Care Special Education School.
