The Parsard ‘train’ reaches the station, as trainer credits jockey for win
After seven starts, three-year-old bay filly Treasure Train finally got her head in front when she won a maiden special weight event over seven furlongs (1,400m) on Saturday.
The Blue Pepsi Lodge offspring did enough in the latter stage of the event to beat Daddy’s Dilemma (Ian Spence) by a short head in a time of 1:30.3.
Trainer Ian Parsard then credited jockey Dick Cardenas for his charge’s victory after Treasure Train encountered traffic problems for mos of the trip.
“I think the jockey [Dick Cardenas] made this difference today (Saturday), quite frankly. The race was a bit rough, a lot of bungling which made it very difficult for Cardenas and Treasure Train. He [Dick Cardenas] got a lot of bouncing in the race but he kept his composure and was able to get the job done and so credit to him,” Parsard offered.
After a couple of strides leaving the starting gates, Lala Diva (Aaron Chatrie) rushed to take up the lead over Dee-Q and Dreamingofanna with Treasure Train in mid-pack watching proceedings.
The order would remain the same even though Lala Diva increased the lead at the half mile (800m) but the horses eventually caught up with her at the top of the lane.
With six horses spread across the track in deep stretch, Treasure Train surged between horses and picked up the lead with a furlong (200m) to go but then had to withstand the late surge of Daddy’s Dilemma. So Smooth finished third.
“The performance was good enough. My son (Peter-John) really did a lot of work with this horse over the last couple of weeks. Treasure Train has some problems and he was able to find them and sort them out and so sometimes the assistant gets the job done and I am happy as he (Peter-John) did a good job,” Ian Parsard said.
