Higgler, construction worker nabbed at NMIA with cocaine
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man and a woman were nabbed with separate quantities of cocaine amounting to 4.1 pounds, following their arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) from Guyana on Sunday.
The police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said the drug has an estimated street value of $2.6 million.
The two; 58-year-old Miriam Thompson, a higgler of Norwood, St James and 56-year-old Edson Berry, construction worker, of Portmore in St Catherine are to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court next Wednesday.
They are to answer to several breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act, including importing cocaine, possession of cocaine and dealing in cocaine.
It is reported that on their arrival on the flight about 4:00 am, they were taken to hospital following a security screening, where Berry expelled 68 homemade capsules weighing approximately two pounds while Thompson expelled 71 capsules weighing about 2.1 pounds.
