Charles to receive NCU honorary degree
Northern Caribbean University (NCU) has announced that it will be conferring Speaker of the House of Representatives Pearnel Charles with a Doctor of Public Service honoris causa at its 95th commencement service on the university campus next Sunday.
Charles, a Lay Magistrate, and Member of Parliament for Clarendon North Central, holds an Order of Distinction, Commander Class. He will be honoured in the first of two commencement services, starting at 8:00 am.
Also Sunday, the university will award honours on managing director of the Development Bank of Jamaica Limited, Milverton Reynolds, and president of Atlantic Caribbean Union, Pastor Peter Kerr. Reynolds will be conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, while Kerr will receive an Honorary Doctor of Divinity. Those awards will be made in the second commencement ceremony at 2:00 pm.
NCU will also honour veteran educator and NCU alumnus Dr Owen Roberts and hotelier and NCU alumnus Dennis Morgan at this year’s graduation. Roberts will be receiving the President’s Medallion, while Morgan will be recognised as this year’s Product Sample.
The NCU graduation is a weekend-long event scheduled for August 10-12 on its Mandeville campus in Manchester. A consecration service is set for Friday, August 10 at 7:00 pm, followed by the Baccalaureate Service on Saturday, August 11 at 10:30 am and the Nurses Pinning Ceremony at 3:00 pm that day.
