KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government continues to haemorrhage from allegations of mismanagement and corruption at a number of agencies under the Ministry of Science, Energy, and Technology formerly held by Dr Andrew Wheatley, who resigned from the Cabinet on Monday.

In an effort to cauterise the problem, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has summoned all boards of agencies under the energy portfolio — over which Wheatley once had charge — to a meeting next week.
The announcement was made shortly after news broke that Spectrum Management Authority Chairman Trevor Forrest had tendered his resignation on Tuesday amid pressure over his attempt to improperly insert Carolyn Warren, who has several criminal convictions, into a recruitment process at the agency two years ago.

And, Olympian Warren Weir apologised on Tuesday for his reaction to being stopped by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force during a recent traffic search.

The apology came on the heels of video being circulated on social media of an encounter between Weir and traffic police in Trelawny during which Weir ridicules the officers, while expressing that he was unfairly targeted because he owns a “nice SUV”.
In Sport, Caitlin Chang won Jamaica’s first medal in fencing after she copped silver in the final of the individual fencing competition at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, last Saturday.
Jamaica finished the competition with 17 medals, including eight gold, three silver and six bronze.
It has been reported that Telecoms provider Digicel is involved in negotiations to sponsor the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association football competitions, after rival telecoms company Flow on Thursday announced that its five-year title sponsorship deal has ended.
