‘I have a dream…’
Dear Editor,
Jamaica needs to make a leap into the future; a step closer to the vision of a unified and compassionate society, not the opportunism and individualism that now prevails.
We must do away with political favours. If we can accomplish this maybe our growing national nightmare will end.
“I have a dream,” to borrow from Martin Luther King Jr, of a Government absolutely neutral and removed from all intolerance and religious bigotry.
Let’s come together as a people great from our beginnings to celebrate the right to hold beliefs of our own choosing and to put behind us intolerance and hypocrisy that has held us in a world of fear which, for too long, has been the driving force in this our pleasant land as it pushes us into self-induced madness.
So, let us not send our best abroad; let’s keep them here and make Jamaica a force to be reckoned with — the Switzerland of the Caribbean, pearl of the Antilles. We can do it!
A call to both parties for a leader bold enough and fearless enough to say to the people of Jamaica, “Mea culpa; yes, we too made too many bad choices, we too had our scandals, but I promise you this will never happen again under our watch.”
I issue a challenge, who is there to lift high the banner of justice and equality, which is the right of every citizen of Jamaica. Let’s never hear again the cry from any Jamaican: We want justice.
