Kanabis takes over New York
In a bid to expand on its fan base and to showcase its selectors, sound system Kanabis recently did a promotional tour of New York.
The move is paying dividends, as the sound system has been booked for other events in the tri-state area.
“The invasion was truly a blessing and epic. The fans came out in their numbers to see what we had to offer, and they accepted us as a very talented sound out of Antigua with a Jamaican vibe,” said selector Jahny Gwapp.
Kanabis’s first event was at a weekly event called ‘Dat a Di Ting’ held in Mount Vernon. It also featured DJ Kidd & Entourage and Chris Fusion.
“I would say the highlight for us was seeing the people vibes up and showing us mad love as if we were on our home turf. It was a blessed feeling,” said Jahny Gwapp.
The second event — which took place on Thursday, August 2 — saw Kanabis at a gig keeping patrons on a musical high at Unwind Thursdays. This took place at the Garage in the Bronx.
Promoter Paul Platinum was pleased to have added the sound to the line-up of the four-year-old event.
“Kanabis delivered as we expected, and the crowd’s reception was very good. They really outdid themselves,” said Paul.
In the wake of their New York appearances, the members of Kanabis have been booked for two other events: Connecticut Sound Fest on August 26; and Invasion BBQ in Bronx, September 3.
