Superluminal, returning from a near miss going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820 metres) three weeks ago, made amends after producing a typical gutsy performance to win the top-rated Overnight Allowance event over 10 furlongs (2,000m) on the Independence Day programme at Caymanas Park on Monday, August 6, 2018.

After going through at the top of the lane, Superluminal, in another demonstration of his fighting qualities, outbattled Dontae (Shane Ellis) in deep stretch to win the event by a length and a half in a good time of 2:09.0. Dysfunctional, under Anthony Thomas, was third.

Peter-John Parsard, assistant to his father Ian, said that the connections were more than pleased with the performance of the now six-year-old Superluminal.

“The connections are very pleased with the performance. We were pretty confident of him winning coming into the race. We knew coming off the issues that we’ve had with him previously that if he got the right distance and we got this horse perfectly sound, then he would not disappoint as he would have had a good chance of winning the race.

“We did a very good job in getting him here and the jockey (Omar Walker) did an excellent job in the saddle, and we are very pleased with the final result,” Parsard told the Supreme Racing Guide.

Speaking about the future plans for Superluminal, Parsard gave his perspective: “Going forward at this age now, it is a matter of keeping Superluminal as healthy as is possible and not to extend him too much. This is not a horse that we think can challenge again in the top class, so for the time being we want to be able to maximise the races that he can win at this level, going forward with smart spotting of his races. That, I think we can do.”
