ONLINE READERS’ COMMENT: Bring back hanging
Dear Editor:
Daily, we as Jamaicans are bombarded with reports of heinous crimes being committed by a seemingly unending cohort of heartless criminals that have been spawned over many years.
Only today, a man’s throat was cut in St Thomas (Observer Online), and for sure all of us remember babies being murdered along with women and old people. To say that no one is safe would be an understatement of immense proportions.
No one of us, not the Prime Minister, not the Governor General, not the Leader of the Opposition can deny that a lot of these crimes committed in Jamaica are gruesome and heinous.
Yet when the process of law, call it justice, if you wish, is completed, the perpetrators of these crimes are mollycoddled and treated as if nothing had happened. In many instances as well, they are offered bail, and if a mosquito bites one of them, the voices of the Human Rights groups are raised with Piranha like frenzy.
I say this to highlight the fact that if there is no deterrent to at least make these criminal monsters think before they act, we have already lost and will be forever in their shackles.
BRING BACK HANGING!
