Weekly Round-up: Major crimes down… Cabinet changes coming… Alleged gang leader, mother killed
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government on Monday welcomed statistics suggesting that major crimes were down by 16.8 per cent between January 1 and August 11, compared to the same period last year.
However, the total of 797 murders recorded for the period represented increases of 55 over the same period in 2016; 68 on those reported in 2015; and 99 for the same period in 2014.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Wednesday admitted that since the resignation of science and technology minister Dr Andrew Wheatley he has considered changes in his Cabinet with the appointment of a new minister to take over the portfolios formerly overseen by Wheatley.
And an alleged gangster and his mother were killed in Hanover on Wednesday night when gunmen entered their home and shot them multiple times.
