Transport operators promise improved service come September 1
KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) says the commuting public, especially students across the island, can expect a much improved public transportation service come September 1, despite the Government’s silence on a fare adjustment.
“We owe it to the commuting public to provide a good transportation network and service and we owe it to ourselves to do the best we can in trying times and most of all we are not giving up,” TODDS said in a release yesterday.
“The transport groups island wide are on a campaign to reduce the stigma being place on the sector for decades so come September you will see an improved delivery of service.
“Some 1000 Coaster and small buses are now fitted with free wifi service, several buses are now offering sweets, oranges and newspaper to passengers and we are in discussion with a major company to install cashless machines in our units,” TODDS added.
The transport interest group said its overall training and development programme will be officially launched on September 13, but it will commence a major transport operators monitoring and observation programme come September 4.
“The indiscipline on our roads must come to an end,” it said.
