ONLINE READERS COMMENT: Widen the road in front of the University Hospital
Dear editor,
Whether on weekdays or weekends, there is bumper to bumper congestion in front of the University Hospital near Papine in St Andrew.
Vans and trucks delivering to the numerous shacks and shops at Mona Commons and taxi drivers, who stop to load, block the narrow thoroughfare bringing buses, ambulances, and people trying to get to school and work to a virtual crawl.
It is an unsightly development at the Mona Commons squatter community with dwellings and shops, less than three feet from the main road, and windows that literally open on to the sidewalk compounding the traffic congestion.
People are eventually going to die in that traffic while trying to get to the hospital.
With all the road widening projects that are now taking place across the city, the road in front of UWI Hospital should be one at the top of the list.
