Man pleads guilty to grabbing woman’s chain in downtown Kingston
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A ‘chain grabber’ is to be sentenced on September 14 after he pleaded guilty to larceny from the person when he appeared in “night court” at the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last evening.
The defendant, Nichar McCarty, reportedly snatched a chain from around a woman’s neck about 11:30 am yesterday, while she was walking in the market district in downtown Kingston.
According to reports, the complainant reported the theft at the Kingston Public Hospital police post and an officer was summoned from the Darling Street Police Station.
Based on the description the woman provided the lawman, he, along with his team, went in pursuit of McCarty but, when they visited his house, he was not there.
However, McCarty was later found at a shop about 12:00 pm in the vicinity of the zone of special operation (ZOSO) in Denham Town.
When asked about the chain, he reportedly told the police that he would return it. He, along with the lawmen, went to an undisclosed location where the gold chain was recovered.
He was taken to the Darling Street Police Station where he was charged and brought before the court.
