Cocktails With — Norma Williams

Norma Williams

Kingston-based cabin crew instructor at Caribbean Airlines & Human Performance and Branding facilitator

Miss Personality! She might not have copped the SO cover but she certainly won our hearts with her bubbly personality. Cheers to you, Norma Williams! w e, like so many, would love to know just a little bit more …

What’s your favourite cocktail?

As a cabin crew instructor, I do prefer to take the academic approach to wines and spirits, but a perfectly chilled glass of G H Mumm Le Rosé brings me pure, unadulterated pleasure!

In my next life I would like to come back as…

Me!… With all my ‘overdweetness’, talents and my flaws and oh, with a Duchess title!

In retrospect, what advice would you give to your 15-year-old self?

Hey, you bold, confident girl! Don’t try to fight every battle. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. And of course: Get those goals and save!

What’s on rotation in your car stereo?

Last Christmas, my friend gave me a copy of Damian Marley’s album Stony Hill and what an amazing gift! it has been on rotation since. One day I am Grown and Sexy and next day I am Speaking Life. Thanks, ‘Crimmie’!

Diamonds or pearls?

Pearls for me. I clutch them when the teacher side of me is in shock and overdo them when I am in a couture state of mind.

Heels or flats?

Heels…Heels…Heels…can I say heels again? There is an elegance that consumes you when you are on the balls of your feet.

LBD or jeans?

LBD. As a matter of fact, a RBBD Really Big Black Dress with a billowing skirt and of course, a train.

Tall, dark and handsome or vertically challenged and intellectual?

Hmmmmm. I need intellect. I seriously do. As an extroverted introvert, and when I retreat to the quiet of my home, the person close to me must be my all: deep coversations, business discussions and best friend.

The French Riviera or Les Algarves?

Les Algarves, for sure. There is an incredibly liberating feeling that comes over me when I am by the water. The feeling I would get swimming in one of the coves!

Were you to throw a dinner party, who would the five individuals at the top of your list be and why?

Five…let me see. My daughter Katheryn, a must. The most beautifully pure soul I know. Her dad Bert would anchor the vibe with his down-to-earth ways and frequent scoffs at my ‘overness’. My ‘sister-friends’, my #backupbackup crew, Dr Karen Phillips and Michelle Gordon, my sounding boards. And I would have a special woman, my elevator specialist, the woman who forces me to step into my destiny, Marcia Richards.

White roses or peonies?

Peonies. They appeal to the boho side of me.

Mortgage or cash in the bank?

Cash. I was schooled by Bert, way back in the day. Pay for what you want as the interest you pay can buy another one. So I am not big on credit.

Finally, what’s your personal credo?

God gives the toughest battles to the strongest soldiers; therefore, my navigation mantra on this journey called ‘my life’ is #CUTANDGUHTHROUGH. Take the time you need to recharge, wheel and come again and allow dreams to manifest. Be you, be excellent and celebrate. Work hard, play harder, give, be grateful, and pray.
