No major delays in Corporate Area despite traffic changes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Scores of police officers and members of the Jamaica Defence Force were this morning deployed to the streets of the Corporate Area in sections expected to be worst affected by traffic.
It came just hours before the start of the new school year.
Members of the security forces were strategically positioned at traffic lights along major thoroughfares to direct traffic, as several road changes implemented by the National Works Agency take effect today.
There was a steady flow of traffic along Spanish Town Road heading eastward from Portia Simpson Miller Square and traffic flow along Chisholm Avenue was also steady this morning.
Meanwhile, some motorists were caught by surprise with the traffic changes along Constant Spring Road and expressed some amount of confusion and frustration but the police were on hand to assist although there were complaints that the lawmen were equally confused.
One of the new traffic changes instituted along the route was a one-way starting from Mary Browns Corner straight to Manor Park resulting in traffic coming from Constant Spring Road detouring through Cassava Piece and on to Mannings Hill Road.
The slated changes are scheduled to run from 6:00 to 9:00 am on weekdays. However, at 6:00 am, traffic was observed coming up Constant Spring road and making stops at Immaculate High School.
About 20 minutes later, the road was closed and vehicles had to be turned back.
No major delays were observed.
