Shantel Bailey’s hat-trick crushes Cavalier
SHANTEL Bailey scored her second hat-trick of the season as she led Waterhouse FC to a crushing 6-0 win over Cavalier SC in their JFF/Lascelles Employees & Partners Coop-Credit Union Women’s League encounter at Alpha field on Saturday.
Bailey got her goals in the first, 14th and 17th minutes, while national representatives Davia Richards (45th and 68th minutes) and Rochell Gray in the 76th minute scored the others.
Waterhouse, with six wins from as many matches, sit firmly atop Zone A on 18 points with four matches remaining before the semi-finals.
Everald Campbell, the interim coach of Waterhouse, said that while he was pleased with his team effort, he believes more goals should have been scored.
“The movements off the ball were not too precise so we need to improve on it for our next game. Our main aim is to go all the way towards winning the championship title.”
Waterhouse wasted no time in taking a 1-0 lead as Bailey, who received the ball deep inside the Cavalier defence, shot past advancing goalkeeper Danielle Flake.
Cavalier produced a few quick counter attacks in their hunt for the equaliser but poor finishing denied them. Waterhouse’s second goal came in the 14th through a solo run from Bailey. She eluded a Cavalier defender before entering the penalty box where she slipped the ball past goalkeeper Flake before calmly placing the ball into an empty goal.
Bailey completed her treble three minutes later when she found the back of Cavalier’s net with a well struck right-footed effort.
Christiana Salmon should have made it four but her shot from about the penalty spot was brilliantly saved by the diving Flake.
Richards made it 4-0 in the 45th minute when she slotted past the goalkeeper to affirm her team’s first-half dominance.
Waterhouse had several easy chances, but failed to turn them into goals.
Richards eventually made it 5-0 in the 68th minute when she tapped in from a cross from the right side. Gray completed the rout in the 76th minute by placing the ball into the far corner beyond Flake.
