KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Prime Minister of Jamaica and Chancellor of the University of Technology (UTech) Edward Seaga will on Thursday, September 27,deliver the UTech Distinguished Public Lecture on the topic, ‘The Origins and Development of Jamaican Music’.

The lecture is scheduled for 5:00 pm at Lecture Theatre 50, Shared Facilities Building, at the UTech Papine campus.

Seaga’s lecture is set within the context of his commemorative musical book-box set collection: “Reggae Golden Jubilee 50 Anniversary: Origins of Jamaican music” launched in 2012 to coincide with Jamaica’s 50th independence celebrations.

His presentation will outline the journey of Jamaica’s music development in sequence from the emergence of rhythms, highlighting how the music has changed from one style and sound to another over the years, UTech said in an advisory.

Seaga, early in Jamaica’s music history, operated production company West India Records Limited and played an integral role in the development of the industry.

President, UTech, Professor Stephen Vasciannie, will chair the lecture, which will be free of cost to the public.
