With hotshot Mount Pleasant Football Academy not in action tomorrow, leaders Cavalier SC and fourth-placed The University of the West Indies (UWI) will take the spotlight in the third round of matches in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at the Bowl starting at 3:30 pm.

In other games today, champions Portmore United host- Humble Lion at the Spanish Town Prison Oval at 3:30; Dunbeholden travel to the Edward Seaga Sports Complex to play Tivoli Gardens, also at 3:30 pm; Arnett Gardens welcome Reno to the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex for a 5:00 pm encounter and Waterhouse host Harbour View at 7:00 pm. On Monday, Montego Bay United host Mount Pleasant at 8:30 pm.

Following their two consecutive wins, Cavalier are one of three teams on maximum six points atop of the league and will be aiming for sole leadership when they take on the UWI in fourth spot with four points.

Cavalier, just as they did last season, are maintaining their philosophy of playing a young, talented team and they will again be a force to be reckoned with, especially following their dramatic stoppage time come-from-behind 2-1 win over Arnett Gardens last week.

The “Foska Oats” boys are bubbling with confidence as the likes of Alex Marshall, Nicholas Hamilton and Chevone Marsh will be a handful and should provide the Rudolph Speid-coached aggregation with their third consecutive win.

UWI, who played to a 2-2 draw with Harbour View and defeated Humble Lion 1-0, showed that they won’t be pushovers and, playing at home, will be hard to beat. The likes of Anthony Greenland, Patrick Brown, Dawayne Smith and Jerandy Henry are experienced campaigners who lead the charge.

Meanwhile, Tivoli Gardens will be hunting their third-consecutive win when they host the promoted Dunbeholden in the first game of the season at the newly resurfaced Edward Seaga Sports Complex. Tivoli Gardens are on six points with wins over Montego Bay United and Reno, while Dunbeholden are pointless after losing to Waterhouse and Montego Bay United.

It should be another win for Tivoli Gardens as Dunbeholden, despite having a strong backline and a decent midfield, are lacking a quality striker and it would appear that they are going to need more time to properly announce themselves in this league.

Champions Portmore United, who bounced back from their opening-day loss with a polished 2-0 win over Harbour View last Monday, will be taking no prisoners when they host Humble Lion at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Portmore are fifth on three points, while Humble Lion are 10th without a point, but remained a most dangerous unit looking to secure their first point of the season. It should be a humdinger of a game between two very good teams loaded with talent all over the pitch.

Former champions Arnett Gardens were within minutes of securing a crucial away win at Cavalier before giving up two stoppage time goals to lose 1-2. They could have been at the top of the league, but now they are sixth on three points. The Jerome Waite-coached boys will be all the rage against a RC Reno outfit at the bottom of the league pointless. Arnett Gardens had looked good in their opening match against Humble Lion and should pack too many guns for a Reno team that has started the season.

Arnett gave a debut to national player Jamiel Hardware and he looked good alongside Marvin Morgan, Vishinul Harris and the calm central midfielder Kemar Philpott.

In the fifth and final game today, last season’s beaten finalist Waterhouse will be looking to rebound from their 0-1 loss to Mount Pleasant when they tackle Harbour View at Drewsland.

Harbour View too are looking to rebound from their 0-2 defeat at the hands of Portmore United, setting the stage for an epic battle. Waterhouse are seventh on three points, while the ‘Stars of the East’ are ninth with a point. Both teams are loaded with talent and it will come down to who make fewer mistakes. Harbour View, with the talented Peter-Lee Vassell and Tyreek Magee in the middle, will take some stopping, although they seem short upfront with a natural goalscorer.

On Monday night’s televised game, former champions Montego Bay United, in eighth spot with three points will be severely tested by hotshot newcomers Mount Pleasant FA sitting pretty on six points in third spot. All eyes will be glued to the television as Mount Pleasant have brought a certain level of energy, excitement and expectations, to the league.

Having brushed aside last season’s top two teams Portmore United and Waterhouse, Mount Pleasant are fancied to make it three straight wins. However, Montego Bay are a tough unit and could hand the new boys their first loss of the season.
