WKPP energy debate
TEAMS from eight west Kingston schools are tomorrow scheduled to go head to head in the first round of a debate series focused on energy and the environment.
The students, representing west Kingston schools St Andrew Technical, Tivoli Gardens High, Dunoon Park Technical, Clan Carthy, Wolmer’s Boys Kingston College, Kingston High and St George’s College, will consider the moot ‘Be it resolved that climate change is a hoax’.
Four teams will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for October 11, and will argue, ‘Be it resolved that natural gas is the best source of alternative energy’. The finals are set for October 18, when the moot will be, ‘Be it resolved that Jamaica is not doing enough to protect the environment’.
West Kingston Power Partners, which is implementing the debate, says the series is designed to provide students with a platform to express their views; develop their reasoning skills; boost their confidence; and gain insight into the energy sector.
The WKPP debate was launched on September 20.
