Concerned about the issues plaguing society, including crime, violence, unemployment, and distrust among politicians, singer Idu has released the thought-provoking Youths Them Heart Cold.

Produced by Chester Walker, Youths Them Heart Cold is a heartfelt message to leaders with the hope of bringing about a change.

“To how the world is running these days, people finding it hard to get jobs, the way the leaders are operating — crime and violence. This song came to mind and it’s a message that had to be said,” Idu told Jamaica Observer’s Splash.

Idu (given name Kamar Johnson) hails from the Waterhouse community in Kingston. The area is known as a hotbed for musical talent over the years. The popular King Jammy studio is also located there.

“The journey for me in music has been good and bad. It has taught me to be patient and understanding the nature of what I am dealing with,” he said.

Now based in Philadelphia, Idu began singing in the church choir at an early age. After relocating to US, he began to write and record songs at a family studio.

The up-and-coming singer has gained some experience performing at various venues in New Jersey and New York, where he opened for acts including Sanchez, Tego Calderone, and American rhythm and blues singer Amerie.

He is is currently working on his debut album.
