FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Police yesterday identified two of the men killed in a gunfight Monday as members of the feared Ski Mask gang who were on the Trelawny police’s most wanted list,

The other deceased, who also engaged the police, was not identified up to last night but officers said they were working assiduously to determine his identity.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has, meanwhile, started an investigation into Monday’s fatal shooting by the police.

Police gave the identities of the two deceased as reputed leader of the gang, 31-year-old Adrian Walker, also called Lippy and Macka; and 37-year-old Robert Miller, also called ‘Tiler’. The police are working assiduously to determine the identity of the third man.

Two illegal 9mm pistols were recovered from the deceased, the police reported yesterday.

Officers said about 5:10 pm Monday a police team was on foot patrol in the Friendship area — which borders Bunkers Hill — when they came under heavy gunfire from about five men.

Police fired back and at the end of the gunfight three men found suffering from gunshot wounds were taken to the Falmouth Public General Hospital where they are pronounced dead.

Two other men managed to escape and were being sought by the police.

Acting commander of the Trelawny Police Division Deputy Superintendent Winston Milton told a press briefing yesterday that Walker and Miller were active members of the Ski Mask Gang, which was domiciled in Barrett Town, St James.

In January 2017, during a joint police/military operation in the Goodwill community of St James, six alleged members of the Ski Mask Gang were killed.

Police said four guns and a quantity of ammunition were seized following that deadly shoot-out.

The operation, which involved members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and the Mobile Reserve of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, was acting in response to information reportedly received about the gang that is said to have been involved in recent shootings in the Barrett Town area of St James.

But recently, remaining members of the gang have surfaced in Bunkers Hill where they have have been making the lives of community members miserable because of killings, extortion, shootings and preadial larceny.

As recent as last week, the gang was fingered in the murder of a 63-year-old community member, Oliver Johnson.

“Since the gang has been operating in the Bunkers Hill area, they have been creating havoc and the area has been relatively tense. Their demise, though unfortunate, will see the community breathing a sigh of relief,” DSP Milton told reporters during the press briefing at the Falmouth Police Station, yesterday.

Walker and Miller were wanted for murder, shootings and other crimes committed in Trelawny.

Assistant Superintendent Jermaine Delattibudiere — crime officer for the Trelawny Police Division — reported that members of the gang had fired at the police during a recent operation in Bunkers Hill. Following that incident, a member of the gang, who later turned up at hospital with injuries, was taken into custody.
