Troy Bernard, organiser of Off Roading On The Farm: Stage Two, confirmed that the event which was held on Sunday, October 28, at Brighton River, Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, was a success and his team is already gearing up for 2019.

“This staging of Off Roading On The Farm proved that this brand has so much to offer to off-road drivers and lovers of motorsport. It brought joy to participants as well as patrons, as many had never seen or done anything like this locally,” he explained.

There was much to see as the event was designed to allow owners of off-road vehicles the opportunity to test their skills in a safe, fun and competitive manner. And competitive it got, as the several drivers that took part pushed themselves and their vehicles, some to the point of breaking, across the multiple challenges on hand.

The tests of skill were spread from the Hill and Gully that had vehicles sideways at precarious angles to the ups and downs of the Log and Step sections, to the deep water of the Swamp and Mud segments. Once things got started the crowds were enthralled by the sheer drama as the drivers attempted each of the courses.

At the end of the day, it was Bobby Stewart in his 2012 Volkswagen Amarok topping some serious custom machines. Stewart explained it was his personal vehicle which he’s owned since new and performed a few modifications.

“It feels great to have won. I view the win as a total bonus as I and others just came along for the fun and enjoyment. Of course, there’s a competitive streak in all of us, so it’s great to have some bragging rights,” Stewart said.

Stewart’s Amarok retains the stock drivetrain, the two-litre twin turbo diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, but has upgrades to the ECU, a two-inch lift in height, underbody plates, and 31-inch mudder tyres with 16-inch beadlock wheels. He won the Swamp challenge overall, and kept consistent second-place and third place finishes across the others events for a winning haul of points.

“I noticed a couple of factory-sponsored cars having a go, but I’ve always maintained that a good pickup truck with a good four-wheel drive system can handle a surprising amount and I think the Amarok showed its worth,” Stewart added.

Bernard said the upcoming events will be even better executed as they try to cater to all involved, drivers and patrons.
