The RonRon goes to Outrageous Taj
Outrageous Taj turned back a good field to win the fourthth running of the RonRon Trophy over six furlongs (1,200m) on Saturday.
The three-year-old bay gelded son of Adore The Gold, Outrageous Taj, who went down narrowly in his previous race going a 100 metres longer, showed rapid improvement this time around to win the Restricted Stakes by over three lengths, being eased down by jockey Oneil Mullings close to home.
What was more impressive was the time of 1:12.0, which was shades outside of the Stakes record of 1:11.4 done by Runallday last year.
“This was a very good win for Outrageous Taj, but I think he has another run in the class, so the objective now is to find a race for him and prepare him for a run before the year ends,” said trainer Alford Brown, who saddled Outrageous Taj for trainer Dwight Chen who was indisposed.
“He has ability, so he is taking his time to come on as he has some niggling problems which still have to be sought out. We’ve done some work on him to get him to where he is competitive at this level. But there is work to be done,” Brown added.
Outrageous Taj broke well but couldn’t match strides with the fast Exhilarate (Dick Cardenas), who led the 11-horse field. Approaching the final bend, Outrageous Taj went in serious chase of Exhilarate, who looked to be stealing a march of the field.
Turning for home, Outrageous Taj drew alongside Exhilarate before the former began to draw away close for home to register his third winner of the season.
My Sister (Aaron Chatrie) came through on the inside rails to snatch second money from Exhilarate.
