UPDATE: Wanted man among 10 people detained in August Town operation — police
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A man who was wanted for murder is among ten people in police custody this evening following a joint police/military operation which started in August Town this morning.
The operation follows two recent shootings in the area which reportedly left two people dead and another in hospital.
The latest shootings are theorised to be spurred by an ongoing gang feud in the area.
Today, a handgun and more than 70 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized during the operation, the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) reported.
Reports are that about 4:00 am the security forces executed 36 search warrants in the communities of Bedward Gardens, May Lane, Jungle 12, Goldsmith Villa and Hermitage.
This led to the seizure of seven 5.56 rounds of ammunition and one 7.62 round of ammunition. During the operation, 66 people were detained, the CCU said.
Nine of them were identified as persons of interest in ongoing investigations, while one man was identified as wanted in a case of murder.
Meanwhile, in a secondary operation that was conducted on Mountain View Avenue, Kingston 2, one man was taken into custody following the seizure of a Glock pistol, three magazines and seventy-two 9mm rounds of ammunition.
The man’s identity is being withheld at this time.
