FLOW takes two AMCHAM awards

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Flow Jamaica was recognised by the Jamaican Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), receiving two awards at AMCHAM’s annual Business and Civic Leadership Awards held recently at the Pegasus Hotel.

The telecommunications giant, in a release, said it captured the second place award in the category of Excellence for Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility for large organisations while the Flow Foundation placed second in the Excellence for Civic Leadership category.

The company said its community outreach activities driven mainly by employee volunteerism are in the areas of technology, children’s health, education, sports, social welfare and the environment.

The Internet in Schools Programme provides free Internet access in schools, along with free or subsidised computers and the establishment of community cyber centres for both access and training.

Other areas of focus include the Annual Bursaries and Scholarships Programme for tertiary and needy students and the Flow Foundation’s Annual Penn Relays Programme which ensures participation of hundreds of student athletes.

The work of the Foundation also includes the establishment of the Paediatric Cancer Fund at the Bustamante Hospital for Children and its association with the UWI Endowment Fund resulting in the provision of life-saving equipment.

Errol K Miller, the late Executive Chairman of the Flow Foundation was also honoured with a Special Lifetime Mention Award by AMCHAM during the ceremony.

“This is a proud moment for Flow and we are very appreciative of the recognition of the work that we do in fulfilling our mission of “Connecting Communities…Transforming Lives,” said Kayon Mitchell, Director of Communications and Stakeholder Management at Flow.

“We would also like to thank our Flow Foundation team, volunteers and partner organisations for their contribution to the company’s efforts to give back to communities,” she added.

The AMCHAM Awards highlight the work of businesses, individuals and non-profit organizations that drive economic and social progress in Jamaica through ethical leadership, stewardship and community building activities.

Sagicor Jamaica took first place in the Excellence for Outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility category and the Sagicor Foundation was also first for Excellence for Civic Leadership.
