Transport group urges Gov’t to seek expert opinion on stemming fatal crashes
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services (TODSS) is urging the Government of Jamaica to employ international experts to examine the country’s road network to recommend ways to mitigate fatal crashes.
The call follows this morning’s crash in St James which left a man and two girls dead and another three children injured.
The crash occurred along the Rose Hall main road in the parish.
The transport group said “this piece of roadway is known as one of the first black accident [sites] in Jamaica with some of the most deadly crashes, and several technical research has been done in that area to address this problem”.
TODSS noted that the country has once again surpassed 300 road fatalities this year, despite several road safety promotions.
The group is calling for an increase in the number of road signs, grits, traffic lights and other signals on the road network.
