PNP Women’s Movement stages vigil in Half Way Tree against violence
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People’s National Party (PNP) Women’s Movement is to host a candlelight vigil in commemoration of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW) tonight at Mandela Park in Half Way Tree.
The Movement said the vigil, which is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm, seeks to give a voice to survivors of violence; provide support for survivors by connecting them with organisations that provide support services and encourage a spirit of volunteerism.
“It will also highlight the ways we can get involved to prevent violence through legislation, training and community engagement; as well as honour those who have died as a result of violence, the Movement explained in a statement.
