Taxi man found not guilty of having sex with schoolgirl
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The taxi driver, who was on trial for reportedly driving away with a schoolgirl and having sex with her, was yesterday freed after when he appeared in court.
The 34-year-old was found not guilty of having sexual intercourse with a person under 16, by a unanimous verdict after the seven-member jury deliberated for 40 minutes.
Allegations were that on the March 4, 2014 the 14-year-old complainant boarded a route taxi in Golden Spring, St Andrew and was carried away by the driver who was accused of having sex with her.
The taxi driver was represented by Attorney Richard Lynch, who maintained throughout the trial that his client was innocent and pointed out several discrepancies in the complainant’s testimony.
