Urban Junior, Senior school netball finalists decided

GAYNSTEAD High, St Catherine High and Norman Manley High contest the finals of the 2018 Inter-Secondary Sports Association (ISSA) Urban High Schools Junior and Senior netball competitions at the Leila Robinson Courts on Wednesday.

Two new champions will be crowned this season in both the Junior and Seniors as the previous holders St Catherine High and Excelsior High both lost in their respective semi-finals. Excelsior were also the reigning All-Island Seniors champions.

The Urban Juniors and Seniors finals are scheduled for next Tuesday at the Leila Robinson Courts.

In the Juniors semi-finals, pre-season favourites Norman Manley dethroned champions St Catherine by registering a 32-27 win. They will face Gaynstead who comprehensively dispatched St Hugh’s 39-17 in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, defending Senior champions Excelsior were surprised by St Catherine 37-31 in their semi-final and will go up against unbeaten Gaynstead who defeated The Queen’s School 43-26 in their semi-final.

Last year Gaynstead lost both the Juniors and Seniors finals to St Catherine and Excelsior, respectively.

The finals will also consist of two schools that are unbeaten Norman Manley and Gaynstead in the Juniors and Gaynstead in the Seniors, while St Catherine has lost only one match, and that was to Gaynstead in the second round.

Kelsey Jonas scored 28 goals from 32 attempts and Britney Logan with 15 goals from 24 efforts for Gaynstead in their 43-26 win against The Queen’s School in their Seniors semi-finals, while Ashani Simms got 22 goals from 28 tries for the losers.

Felicia Simms with 29 goals from 33 attempts and Judene Mattie with 16 goals from 19 attempts scored for St Catherine High in their 37-31 win against Excelsior in the Seniors, while Racoya Douglas scored 27 goals from 32 attempts for the losers.
