Will In Charge fit and ready for Diamond Mile showdown
AFTER going down to She’s A Maneater by a short head in the recent 10-furlong (2,000m) Burger King Superstakes on November 10, trainer Robert Pearson holds the strong view that his horse Will In Charge can turn the tables on his conqueror in tomorrow’s Diamond Mile.
Will In Charge beat She’s Maneater on three occasions before the run for the Superstakes.
The stage is therefore set for the grand showdown between arguably the two best horses in training at present but this time the showdown comes in the Diamond Mile, the richest race by far on the local racing calendar. The distance of the Diamond Mile suits both horses but Pearson is backing his charge to produce another win.
“Preparation for the Diamond Mile has gone pretty well. Will In Charge is doing very well. He came out of the Superstakes in good order and continued displaying a lot of energy in his workouts, suggesting he is in good spirits and we are looking forward to a good showing in the event. I am looking forward to the race.
“From all indications it looks as though it all comes down between Will In Charge and She’s A Maneater at the handicaps,” Pearson told the Supreme Racing Guide.
Will In Charge has been clamped with top weight of 57.0 kilogrammes (126 lb), but according to Pearson, that should not be an issue for his charge.
“We’ve been giving the rest of the field weight for the entire year and beating them, so we should be still good enough to continue the trend but you can never tell with this sometimes unpredictable sport and for sure others will be in the mix to land the lion’s share of this Diamond Mile purse come tomorrow, Saturday, December 1,” the trainer indicated.
As in the Superstakes, Will In Charge is to be partnered in the Diamond Mile by jockey Robert Halledeen.
