In a matter of hours Jamaican singer Dalton Harris will know his fate on the finals of the televised talent show X Factor UK.

The two-part finale began in London’s Wembley Arena yesterday and saw Harris and his two rivals — Scarlett Lee and Anthony Russell — putting in valiant performances as they head down the final stretch.

Like he has been doing all season, Harris brought his vocal prowess to both of his performances for the night. He wowed the audience and judges with A Song For You, a tune made popular by the likes of Donny Hathaway and Karen Carpenter. Again he stamped his class on the ballad, lending his crisp falsetto to his interpretation of the song.

This left all four judges equally impressed.

For judge Ayda Williams, Harris has been a force in the competition from day one and confirmed his star status.

Her husband Robbie Williams was also in a celebratory mood.

“ The UK adores you, please stay here with us and don’t leave us. If the X Factor is a competition made to find somebody like Anthony Russell, for you it’s different. I’m baffled why you’re on this competition and you haven’t got six albums under your belt, and you’re not selling out arenas. You are incredible, Dalton.

Lead judge and the show’s co-creator simon Cowell also heaped praises on the singer.

“I know you hear a lot of hyperbole on this show. In my opinion, this was up there with one of the best performances I’ve ever see on this show.”

“It’s been evident for me that you are probably one of the best singers on this show, if not the best singer the X Factor has ever seen,” noted Harris’ coach Louis Tomlinson.

“What’s been amazing to me is to see you grow as an artiste every single week and build a strong identity for yourself. I’m very, very excited about your career after this Dalton. So proud of you, well done.”

Again Harris was thankful.

“I just want to say thanks to the public. Everyone out there who has been so supportive, it’s meant a lot, it’s what’s been bringing me through these past weeks. For me to come here and receive so much love, I respect it, I honour it. Thank you.”

For his second performance, Harris partnered with British music sensation Emeli Sande on Beneath your Beautiful, which again went down well with the audience.

Jamaica was well represented on yesterday’s episode as renowned music producer Donovan Germain, who is a mentor to Harris, was interviewed and noted that participating in X Factor is something Harris always wanted to do.

“Dalton has had this dream of being on the X Factor for the past seven years, and he has accomplished it. He’s already a winner by being this far,” he said.

Harris responded:

“Donovan Germain, I love you so much. You took a chance on a kid [who] had nobody and made him into somebody. I thank you so much for the mind that you have equipped me with. I can never thank you enough… thank you.”
