NWA introduces new routes to access NCB on Hagley Park Road
KINGSTON, Jamaica — People wishing to access the National Commercial Bank (NCB) on Hagley Park Road, located at Three Miles in St Andrew, will be able to do so using a few new routes, as bridge construction works on the Hagley Park Road Improvement Project shifts to that general area.
According to communication and customer services manager at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, for the next few months, works on the Hagley Park Road overpass bridge will be focused between Olympic Way and Mahoe Drive.
He said the activities which involve putting up retaining walls to create access ramps for the bridge will begin this Friday.
As a result, customers of the NCB branch office at Three Miles who would normally access the bank from Hagley Park Road will be redirected on to Mahoe Drive, White Wing Avenue and Olympic Way to approach the bank from Spanish Town Road.
To facilitate the change, the NWA said Mahoe Drive and White Wing Avenue will revert to two-way traffic.
Shaw added that a temporary road, which provides direct access to the bank, has been created where the Tastee establishment was formerly located and so getting to the branch from other directions should not be affected by the planned works.
Motorists seeking to access the bank will also be allowed to travel through the Portia Simpson Miller Square.
The construction of the two overpasses at Three Miles is a major feature of the US$56 million Hagley Park Road Improvement Project and will significantly improve traffic management at the island’s busiest intersection, NWA said. Overall the overpass bridges are 50 per cent complete.
In the meantime, motorists travelling from Portmore towards downtown Kingston are no longer permitted to exit the Portmore toll road on to Marcus Garvey Drive and turn around in the vicinity of the Tinson Pen Aerodrome.
The loop had been created in September when traffic was first redistributed from the Three Miles intersection to facilitate continuing bridge construction works.
With the Chesterfield Road extension being recently put into service, the movement has been discontinued as the NWA said it conflicts with traffic entering Marcus Garvey Drive from the new roadway.
The Chesterfield Road extension or Three Miles bypass is designed as an alternative route primarily for motorists travelling from west of the city of Kingston towards downtown and Half Way Tree.
