O-Wrap: JDF soldier in custody… Flu vaccine available… J’cans urged to check for hypertension

1. JDF soldier in police custody after wife’s murder

A Jamaica Defence Force lieutenant is in now police custody following the stabbing death of his wife, 34-year-old Nordraka Williams-Burnett, an attorney-at-law, at their home in West Kirkland Heights, St Andrew today.

2. JUTC to roll out ‘Night Hawk’ service for festive season

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) will be providing its annual ‘Night Hawk’ service along specified routes for the festive season.

3. Flu vaccine available to high-risk groups – Health Ministry

Acting Chief Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health, Dr Jacquiline Bisasor-McKenzie, says that the flu vaccine is now available to high-risk groups, including children, the elderly and people with immuno-compromised conditions such as cancer and diabetes.

4. Court of Appeal to have full complement of judges by 2020

The Court of Appeal should have its full complement of 13 judges by 2020, up from the seven currently serving.

5. JPS exceeds target for streetlight repairs

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) says it has exceeded its streetlight repair target for the final quarter of 2018, with nearly a month to spare.

6. Jamaica among four countries to benefit from regional Rainwater Harvesting Project

Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, and St Lucia have been earmarked for the installation of rainwater harvesting systems to strengthen their climate resilience through the management of water challenges.

7. Charles Jr calls for greater regional cooperation to counteract terrorism

State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Pearnel Charles Jr is urging countries within the Caribbean region to increase their collaborative efforts in countering the threat of terrorism in the region.

8. J’cans urged to check if they are hypertensive

Minister of Health, Dr Christopher Tufton, says the recent Jamaica Health and Lifestyle Survey shows that 40 per cent of persons who are hypertensive are unaware, and this is of great concern.

9. Windies begin preparations for U-19 World Cup

West Indies Under-19 team begin a one-week high performance camp on Thursday, as they begin preparations for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2020.

10. Windies hope to end series drought in decider against Bangladesh

West Indies captain Rovman Powell said Thursday his men were “upbeat and confident” of clinching the deciding one-day international against Bangladesh and sealing their first series win in four years.
