Magnum Xplosion was the bomb
Last Friday’s Magnum Xplosion at the Melbourne Cricket Oval in Kingston saw a strong turnout of patrons who soaked up performances from different generations of dancehall acts.
The 1990s and early 2000s were represented by deejays General B, Chico, Ward 21 and Mr Lexx.
There were also performances from Magnum King of Dancehall winners Bluugo and Devin Di Dakta as well as Safiyah, the Magnum Queen for 2018.
Ding Dong, Govana, Aidonia, Spice, Teejay, and Bounty Killer were also on the line-up.
Kamal Powell of J Wray and Nephew Limited, manufacturers and distributors of Magnum Tonic Wine, spoke about the event during an interview with the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Splash.
“Being the home of dancehall, we knew we would have a big show in Jamaica. This is the home of Magnum Tonic Wine.
As with every other Magnum Xplosion in the region, patrons had to brave the rains that came earlier, but we appreciate all the consumers that turned out to enjoy the show,” he said.
Powell noted that the series helped position the Magnum product.
“Magnum Xplosion has been our way of rewarding our valued consumers in the region. It has been how we have introduced Magnum Tonic Wine to some new markets, as well as repositioning and strengthening in the brand in existing markets. Magnum is tied closely to dancehall and local culture and the Xplosion series has allowed us to showcase, our music, our culture and the dancehall energy to other countries.”
Magnum Xplosion was held in other Caribbean countries this year: in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, The Bahamas, and St Lucia.
Powell disclosed that the event will return next year.
“Jamaica is home for Magnum Tonic Wine, and so we always have big plans for Jamaica. We have a number of things in the pipeline, so 2019 will be an amazing year for not only Magnum Tonic Wine, but entertainment in Jamaica,” he said.
