Beckford happy to be back at old stomping ground
TUCKER, St James — At the start of the 2018-19 Red Stripe Premier League season, Deshane Beckford made a commitment to his parent club Montego Bay United (MBU) that he would be back by the start of 2019 and he has kept his word, moving back from h arbour View where he has spent the last season-and-half on loan.
Beckford was at the first training session of the struggling former champions at their Wespow Park base in Tucker on Wednesday and told the Jamaica Observer he was eager to resume his career with the club that he first played for as a 16-year-old schoolboy.
“It feels good to be back,” he said.
“The guys have made me feel welcomed and it’s a great feeling. I am very excited and looking for the first game and hope to make an impact,” noted Beckford.
MBU, who are in 11th place on 16 points from 18 games and are winless in their last five games, have scored just 12 goals and Beckford says he is ready to assist in rectifying that situation.
“There is quality here, so I am just here to add to that,” he noted.
The 20-year-old Beckford made his debut as a 16-year-old Rusea’s High schoolboy for MBU in the 2014-15 season in a home game against Rivoli United at Wespow Park and he expects his return will see him continuing on his good form of late.
“Yes I have been playing well and there are more goals and more assists coming,” he promised.
Two of his goals came in a game against MBU in a nationally televised game on December 16 and he said it was a bittersweet moment for him.
“It was a wonderful feeling then that I scored twice and got the job done, but I did not go overboard in celebrations as this was my home team… but it was still a good feeling that I scored two goals,” he told the Observer.
