Waterhouse eye top spot, visit struggling Dunbeholden today

…Portmore away to other RSPL newcomers Mount Pleasant

WATERHOUSE FC will be eyeing the chance at top spot when they travel to St Catherine to face struggling Dunbeholden FC in today’s Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) match at Royal Lakes Complex.

Match time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.

Former champions Waterhouse, enjoying a resurgence this campaign after a lean spell over recent seasons, are second in the 12-team table with 40 points from 22 matches. They are only two points off leaders and title- holders Portmore, who are also in action today.

Promoted Dunbeholden are 11th — languishing in one of two relegation places — with 19 points. With this being the start of the third and final round of preliminary matches, it’s now or never for them to begin a surge up the table.

The form book over the last five matches favours Waterhouse. The St Andrew-based club has won three of its last five matches, including a 1-0 win over hosts Humble Lion FC in its previous game.

During the same period Dunbeholden lost three and won two. Last time out they were blanked 0-2 by fellow promoted outfit Mount Pleasant FA at Royal Lakes.

In another 3 o’ clock encounter today, Mount Pleasant welcome Portmore United to Drax Hall Sports Complex in St Ann.

Mount Pleasant are fifth with 33 points, and well positioned for a top six play-off spot, while Portmore United (42), despite the odd hiccup, are looking good for yet another assault on the RSPL title.

At Effortville Community Centre in Clarendon, eighth-placed Humble Lion FC (27 points) welcome fourth-placed Arnett Gardens FC (34 points), also starting 3:00 pm.

At 5:00 pm, smooth-sailing Cavalier FC host faltering FC Reno at Stadium East field. Cavalier, who have won four of their last five games, are third on 40 points, just behind Waterhouse due to an inferior goal difference.

Westmoreland-based Reno, 10th on 21 points, have won just once over the same period.

In the late kick-off, the pair of former champions Tivoli Gardens FC and Montego Bay United square off at Edward Seaga Sports Complex in west Kingston at 7:00 pm.

Tivoli are seventh— just outside a play-off spot— with 28 points, while Montego Bay are last with 19 points.

In tomorrow’s flagship RSPL Monday Night fixture, ninth-placed Harbour View FC (24 points) take on sixth-placed University of the West Indies FC (30 points) at Harbour View Stadium. Kick-off is 8:35.
